Late Summer Greens & Two Secrets to Share
Desk Note 15 - including pre-fall advice for big city dwellers
Taking in the deep green of late summer / early September before the seasons change. Soon the leaves won’t match this Mini Cooper on the Upper West Side.
I decided to let the pictures do the talking this week, but I do have two secrets to share with you, my big city dreamers:
A DRINK RECIPE FOR PRE-FALL
Last night it wasn’t chilly outside, but it also wasn’t hot & humid. I (shockingly) wasn’t in the mood for a summery Aperol spritz. Yet, I also didn’t want a glass of red wine or a fall drink. I searched my notes app to find a seasonless drink recipe I’d jotted down several months ago from a stranger when I was intrigued by what he was drinking. Found it. The bartender was happy to mix up these simple ingredients for me:
GIN
APEROL
GINGER BEER
LIME
I have no idea how many parts of each, but I do know it is tasty & makes for a fun conversation starter. Sip away during this transition season!
A CURE FOR THE PRESSURE WE PUT ON OURSELVES
Get outside!
This week I found myself feeling overwhelmed by pressure.
Pressure that I was putting on myself over relatively dumb things.
But lucky me it also happened to be one of those dreamy pre-fall September days. At 5 p.m., I shut down my schoolwork and went outside to the library steps. Before I knew it, I had sat there for an hour and a half. I read a magazine, sipped some tea, and just stared at the blue sky. It was an incredibly helpful perspective shift and exactly what I needed to do to clear my mind. I hope you find space to sit outside and breathe next time you need a break, especially for those of us living in big cities where life is crowded and chaotic. Enjoy every minute of these golden hours outside before we turn to fall.
That’s all for now. Some exciting desk notes are in the works for this fall!
