Red Leather Done Right
Desk Note 19: around the city, a thoughtful way to embrace the season's trend
Is red leather really a trend?
To me, it’s more of a forgotten staple. A nostalgic symbol of thoughtfulness.
While everyone adds pops of bright tomato-girl red to their wardrobes this fall, I’ve taken a more subdued approach. Think red-wine colored leather.
Not only does it give the satisfaction of embracing a trend (because it is red), but it also feels like a staple (because it is quality leather). And, I’ll add, it creates a subtle nod of intentionality in the wearer’s style, having chosen both deep red and leather at once.
Sure, I could’ve played it safe with black or brown leather. But I thoughtfully went with the leather that reminds me of a glass of cabernet sauvignon.
Am I original? Hardly.
One afternoon I slipped on my dark red leather mules to complete my navy sweater and jeans ‘fit and boarded the subway to head downtown. I looked to my right on the crowded train and noticed my friend was carrying a dark red leather bag of his own.
How thoughtful!
