Every year in late August the world’s best in tennis return to New York City to compete in the US Open Tennis Championships. Fans, spectators & stars fill the deep blue seats of Arthur Ashe Stadium to the top. The energy at a night match under the lights in Ashe during week two of the tournament is quite literally electric.
Leave the athleisure wear at home and sport a simple yet put-together look in the stands for a night out at the Open.
Blazer - I channeled the deep blue of the stadium seats with a navy linen blazer. Depending on the night, it can get chilly courtside. This linen blazer is the perfect balance for staying warm and cool in the summer, no matter how the weather changes from day to night.
Tee - this navy linen tee is a monochromatic compliment to the blazer.
Denim - a slim-straight cut in a washed blue is a timeless, no-fuss choice. I cut the ankles myself for fun!
Shoes - again, this will depend on the weather & heat whichever day or night you are at the Open. Choose a loafer to dress up a night under the lights. Opt for sandals or sneakers for a sporty-chic finishing touch when attending a weekend day session.
MORNING, NOON, NIGHT
Inspired by the title of one of my favorite coffee table books, each desk note ends with something interesting for you to see, do, read, and/or wear as told through the lens of a day’s journey from sunrise to sunset. This week it’s US Open themed:
MORNING - take an express 7 train out to Flushing Meadows and get off at Mets-Willets Point. No, it’s not for a Met’s game. Follow the fans across the boardwalk to arrive at the grounds of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center for a day at the Open. Grab an iced latte from Lavazza and take a walk around the practice courts to watch the players warming up.
NOON - work on an end-of-summer tan from the seats of the Grandstand or Louis Armstrong Stadium where afternoon matches will heat up with competition. After shopping the merch, head to the Aperol pavilion for a happy hour spritz.
NIGHT - settle into your seats at Arthur Ashe Stadium for a terrific night of tennis under the lights. Sip on a honey deuce (or two) and cheer on the underdog!
Game. Set. Match! That’s all from me this week. Hope to see you at the Open!
