This ain't Texas...nor is it Provence
A suede-boot-kickin', rose-sippin' welcome to LE SPRING SPRITZ
This ain’t Texas…nor is it Provence. However, one sip of rose makes a compelling case for the latter. It isn’t Ojai either. Yet, I am channeling some Betty the Flower Truck vibes a la County Line Florals. I’m somewhere in between, in an ephemeral, joyful state that has transcended me toward what I’d describe as a blossoming new destination. A harmony of all three locales exists within the four walls of Apartment 2F. Welcome to LE SPRING SPRITZ.
It’s a little fête I’ve hosted now two years in a row to lift us all out of this depressive winter funk and into the flower fields of sweet, sweet springtime. So pour yourself an Aperol or Lillet spritz and read on for tips on how to host and make your own bouquet. It starts like this…I throw on some blue jeans and a blue linen shirt to play florist for the day, then grab my tan suede boots and press play on Cowboy Carter. I’ve already sent the invite to old friends, new friends, roommates, baristas, artists, and anyone with a cheery disposition really, and told them one rule. BYOB: Bring your own blooms. We spread the flowers out by type and color and then nibble on my cheese spread (hence l’apero inspo). Dry rose and crisp white wine flow all afternoon and eventually, we get around to making some bouquets. Pro tip: the empty wine bottles make for perfect vases. But if vases are not your style, go to your local florist, tell them what you’re hosting (they’ll delight and joke where was their invite), buy some fillers while you’re there, and ask to have some extra brown wrapping paper for the party.
Now I am admittedly no expert on flower arranging, but this isn’t my first rodeo either so I’ll offer a few petals of advice:
Choose your color palette. Either decide on a monochromatic or complementary color scheme before you begin.
Form a base with greenery. I’ve seen the triangle method on IG, or you can put it around in a circle.
Add flowers by type in ODD quantities. This is especially important for your main flower type so that it stands out.
Pay attention to varying heights. You need to find a balanced height level/ratio.
Tuck in filler flowers to close any gaps. C’est fini!
Hope to make it to one of your Spring Spritz soon. So beautiful!
The rose was flowing! Such a fun party! Thanks for hosting!
